The Santa Lucia Story

The Lucia Festival originated in Sweden where, according to legend, Lucia was a medieval saint who carried food and drink to the hungry in the province of Varmland during a period of famine. Lucia stands today as a symbol of light and hope to all humankind.

2019 Santa Lucia Festival at Augustana Lutheran Church

Lexy Baier was named the 2019 Lucia at the 65th Lucia Festival at Augustana Lutheran Church. The Lucia Festival originated in Sweden. According to legend, Lucia was a medieval saint who carried food and drink to the hungry during a period of famine in the Swedish province of Varmland. Lucia stands today as a symbol of light and hope to all of humankind.

Lexy wore a wreath of lighted candles on her head as she and her attendants served cookies following the smorgasbord meal. Attendants were Abby Whitsel, Sydnee Wynn, Madalyn Welp and Mia Fleckenstein. Starboys were Evan Iversen, Hunter Liberto and Charlie Stewart.
